Like glass through the sun. Around the work of Raymond Hains

From June 20 to November 11, 2008

Presentation

The departmental Estate of Garenne Lemot presents a new contemporary art exhibition as part of the partnership between the General Council of Loire-Atlantique and the Regional Contemporary Art Fund (FRAC) of the Pays de la Loire.

In 1998, Raymond Hains organized at the FRAC of the Pays de la Loire, recently implemented in Nantes, an exhibition of photographs entitled “Lemot passe à travers”. An expert in witticism and merging of all sorts, Hains created for the exhibition some artwork revolving around the sculptor François-Frédéric Lemot, whom he discovered in the 1990s, when the FRAC was located at the Estate of Garenne Lemot.
Ten years after this exhibition, Raymon Hains’ work comes back to the Lemot Villa as the estate presents a new exhibition in honor of this great artist – a photographer, a filmmaker and a great man of wit who died in 2005. Just like Hains, the merging artist, the exhibition builds a bridge to the new generation of artists by finding inspiration in the work of probably one of the greatest artists of the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition presents works of art from Claude Closky, Gérard Collin-Thiébaut, François Curlet, Philippe Durand, Anabelle Hulaut, Matthieu Laurette, Franck Scurti, Yann Sérandour and Pierrick Sorin.
From the “hypnagogical” photographs in “macintoshage” to his first film “Penelope”, his series of 3D objects like the boxes used for giant slides, come and discover this lively, humoristic and touching exhibition that highlights the links between Hains and the new generation of artists.
