Conservation Efforts
On heritage sites, the Department conserves biodiversity by adopting new behaviours. Conserving biodiversity and protecting the environment and resources is a priority at the Garenne Lemot estate.
Conserving biodiversity and protecting environments
Sustainable landscaping practices and the ban on pesticides have resulted in natural vegetation throughout the site.
When necessary, mechanical weed control is carried out by the agents.
The Garenne Lemot estate is also a bird sanctuary approved by the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux (LPO). The site is of obvious ecological interest due to the presence of diverse woodlands (forest on rocky areas, mixed forests and riparian forests), grassy meadows, rocky outcrops, island and aquatic environments, and cultivated environments (vegetable garden, orchard and ornamental beds). The site is home to approximately 266 species, including 175 species of plant life alone and a nationally protected species of dragonfly. In order to align with the site's architectural and historical landscape heritage, the ecological management practices also take into account the park's management and restoration plan.
Protecting and conserving resources
In order to conserve water, the lawns are no longer watered. Though they turn brown towards the end of the summer, they quickly turn green again when the first rains of autumn arrive.
Waste prevention is also an important component of the sustainable management policy. Visitors are asked to carry out their trash, as there are no waste bins on the site.
